Woodbine Cares Handicapping Contest Is Now Open For Entries

Charitable Wager: 2017 Woodbine Cares Contest

On Saturday, September 16th, CharitableWager.com will host the 2017 Woodbine Cares handicapping contests in which players pledge to donate 25 CAD to charity. Contestants in the 2017 Woodbine Cares Contest will choose from the Woodbine Cares approved charities for which to play.

Woodbine Entertainment Group has agreed to seed the Donation Pool with $100 donation to charity selected by the contest winner. Additionally, as the Charitable Wager Site Host and Woodbine’s racing secretary, I will not compete in this contest but pledge to donate $25 to the charity selected by the winner.

The Current Pledged Donation Pool Is $200 And Growing

In Chartiable Wager’s ‘Winner Gives All’ contests, no monies trade hands between the contest organizers or any contestants. Donations are made on the honor system. 100% of donation pool goes to the winners’ charities. Each contest winner chooses from a list of contest designated charities. The Winner Gives All.

In addition to selecting the recipient of the complete Donation Pool, the winner of the Woodbine Cares handicapping contest will also receive one of TEPIN’s halters (pictured below).

TEPIN’s last career win was the 2016 Ricoh Woodbine Mile. This year’s edition of the Woodbine Mile headlines Woodbine’s multiple graded stakes weekend of September 16th and 17th. The races have been drawn, the contest menu will be the entirety of Woodbine Mile racing program including four graded stakes races:

  • Breeders’ Cup Win & You’re In™ – Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Grade I)
  • Northern Dancer Turf (Grade I)
  • Canadian Stakes (Grade II)
  • Bold Venture Stakes (Grade III)

CONTEST RULES:

The contest will operate on under the framework of the Charitable Wager Rules as a $2 Win-Place-Show ‘lockdown’ formatted mythical bankroll handicapping contest with the following amended rules:

  1. Submission deadline for this contest is the “off time” (as reported by Equibase) for first race.
  2. ‘Fashionably Late’ entries will be accepted in this contest.

Contestants in the 2017 Woodbine Cares Contest will choose from the Woodbine Cares approved charities for which to play. The roster of potential charity beneficiaries includes Community MicroSkills Development Centre. MicroSkills helps its client community achieve economic self-sufficiency, actively engage in community life, and make a productive contribution to Canadian society by developing clients’ skills, increasing their information base, and facilitating opportunities for them to transfer their skills and knowledge to the Canadian workforce.As a long term community partner, Woodbine Entertainment Group has supported MicroSkills’ Annual Award Celebration since 2010 and provides resume advice and workplace tours of the Woodbine facility.

Contestants in the 2017 Woodbine Cares Contest will choose from the Woodbine Cares approved charities for which to play. The roster of potential charity beneficiaries includes the Community Association for Riders with Disabilities (CARD). Incorporated in 1969, CARD provides therapy in the fields of cognitive therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation, medicine and adapted sport. CARD’s therapeutic horseback riding program benefits riders who seek physical or cognitive therapies, and who may have a variety of disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis.Though this longstanding partnership, Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) has supported CARD in many ways. This year WEG supported CARD’s “Mini Royal” a horse show open to all CARD riders.
